ICSI Foosball Champions Dominate Tournament

The first ever ICSI Foosball Tournament concluded on Friday, July 16, 2004. Congratulations to Pedro Ruiz and Abhishek Kumar, ICSI Foosball Champions! Pedro is a visiting researcher from the University of Murci in Spain, and Abhishek is a graduate student at Georgia Tech doing a summer internship with ICIR. Both are now revered for their talent on the foosball table.

The tournament consisted of eight teams of two players each. All eight teams competed in several rounds of qualifying matches. Of the eight original teams, four qualified for the semi finals, at which point the competition was narrowed down to two final teams competing for the title of ICSI Foosball Champions. The final match, Pedro Ruiz and Abhishek Kumar vs. Alberto Amengual and Dan Gillick, took place at 5:30 pm on Friday, July 16, 2004. Amengual and Gillick were tough competitors, but Ruiz and Kumar were unbeatable, winning two games in a row to take the championship.

Congratulations to the winners! Contenders wishing to participate in the next tournament are invited to play in practice games on the sixth floor, which are generally held every Tuesday and Thursday around 3:30 pm. Thank you to Alberto Medina of the Networking Group for organizing the tournament, which was a big success and a lot of fun for all who participated!
